N3-VR
Level Designer
Made in Unity, Development in progress
N3-VR is a first-person puzzle game, the player will play as a sentient drone awaken in a wrecked spaceship, trying to repair the ship to decide the fate of the humans sealed in the cryopod. This project is made as an entree to the Seattle Indies 2022 Global Game Jam, completed by 18 contestants within 10 days. In this team, my role is to blockout level structures and to design puzzles utilizing the game mechanics.

Project Breakdown
The theme for this year’s GGJ is “Duality,” after a series of discussions and brainstorming, we decided to make a game about traversing between the physical world and the cyber world. The worlds are two sides of a coin, each has opposite physics behavior but coexist in the same plane. For this project, I was responsible for designing The Bridge and The Powercore levels.
The Bridge Level
For the first level, I collaborated with the narrative team to create a tutorial level that also unravels the background story. The bridge is the command center of the ship, it contains the game guidance and a decipher puzzle.
For this level, my major contributions were:
Blockout a basic level to establish the right proportion
Set-dress the level with props
Place in-game guidance for the world traveling and gravity change mechanics
Design a simple decipher puzzle that reveals part of the lore
The Powercore Level
The second level is a powercore section that powers the spaceship and its utilities. The powercore was constantly emitting lethal (even for drones) beams of energy, blocking the player's paths to obtain the components required to fix the engine.
Working closely with other team members, I designed this level by:
Laid out a rough level blockout that fits the mood board and narrative.
Color-coded many assets to let the programmer know where to implement the mechanics.
Designed the puzzle that centered around accessing different terminals in a particular order to clear a safe path to retrieve the engine components.
Documentation
While developing these levels, I contributed to the GDD created by our lead designer and wrote down the “Bridge” and “Powercore” sections. It contains level descriptions for artists to create appropriate assets and detailed level procedures to give the programmer an understanding of how the mechanics are going to be implemented.

Future Development
Our team was proud of what we have accomplished within such a limited time frame, and we have published the game on itch.io, but we are looking forward to polishing and reworking all of our puzzle levels to establish more consistent gameplay across all levels.
I am currently redesigning the first level to give it more complete gameplay and establish new and improved game guidance, introducing every mechanic to the players in a straightforward manner.
